Energy firm QEP Resources expands Tulsa area workforce

5.24.2012
QEP Resources, Inc. (NYSE: QEP), a leading independent natural gas and crude oil exploration and production company, intends to bring more than 50 jobs to the Tulsa region during 2012, in conjunction with a decision to consolidate its Southern Region offices in Tulsa.

Earlier this year, Denver-based QEP Resources moved forward with plans to manage all of the company’s Southern Region operations, which include exploration and production assets in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, out of its Tulsa office.

As part of this plan, QEP will relocate more than 30 current employees from its Oklahoma City office to its expanded Tulsa location. In addition, the QEP plans to hire approximately 20 new employees in the Tulsa office from a variety of energy-related disciplines this year. In total, the company intends to increase the total number of employees in its Tulsa office by more than 60 percent, to approximately 130 employees by year-end 2012.

As part of QEP Resources’ expansion in the Tulsa region, the company is adding office space to its current address at One Warren Place and will occupy a total of three floors in the building by June 2012.

“QEP Resources is committed to becoming an employer of choice in Tulsa,” stated Jeff Tommerup, Southern Region Vice President for QEP Energy. “Currently, we source more than half of our natural gas production from the company’s Southern Region properties, positioning Tulsa as a strategically important center of operations for our organization. We look forward to partnering with the citizens and community of Tulsa as QEP Resources continues to grow its presence in Tulsa.”

Tulsa Metro Chamber President and CEO Mike Neal stated: “Northeast Oklahoma continues to outpace the nation in many areas of economic development and job creation, and our strong legacy of energy sector employers are bolstering that growth. We know that QEP will continue to thrive in the Tulsa region, and we look forward to continued success from this leading energy company.”

Tulsa Mayor Dewey F. Bartlett, Jr., said: “We are very pleased that QEP plans to expand its Tulsa area operations as the company pursues growth and opportunities in the Tulsa region. Being from the oil and natural gas industry, I am especially gratified that our outreach to the energy industry is being answered.”

QEP Resources and its predecessor companies have a long, storied history dating back nearly a century. Since a predecessor company drilled an exploration well south of Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1922, QEP Resources has grown to become one of the top 20 natural gas producers in the United States. Today, the company operates three major lines of business: QEP Energy, which manages natural gas and crude oil exploration and production; QEP Field Services, which provides natural gas gathering, processing compression and treating services; and QEP Marketing, which markets affiliate and third-party natural gas and crude oil, among other services. QEP Resources operates in nine states and has substantial acreage positions and operations in some of North America’s most important hydrocarbon resource plays, including the Bakken/Three Forks, Pinedale, Haynesville and Woodford “Cana” Shale.
