Tulsa Sports Commission directs 35th annual Tulsa Run

10.20.2012
More than 9,800 runners filled downtown Tulsa Saturday as the Tulsa Sports Commission put on its first Tulsa Run with 2k, 5k an 15k races. The final total of participants for all races was 9,807 runners.

“We had 4,701 registered for the 15k; 3,381 registered for the 5k and 1,725 registered for the 2k,” Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission said. “Of those registered, 4,125 finished the 15k, and 2,612 finished the 5k.”

Julius Kogo, 27, finished the 15k in 44:36, placing first in the men’s division. Hellen Jemutai, 30, finished the 15k in 51:13, placing first in the women’s division.

Kristen Radcliff of Tulsa placed third in the 15k and was the first Oklahoma female finisher. Silas Kisorio of Edmond was the first male Oklahoma finisher with a time of 47:49.

“It was a great race,” Hoyt said. “But, the Tulsa Sports Commission was equally excited to present Camp Fire Green Country with a check for $25,000.”

Camp Fire Green Country was the primary beneficiary of the 2012 Tulsa Run.

The Tulsa Sports Commission also named the last mile of the Tulsa Run the “Jack Wing Memorial Mile” in memory of Jack Wing, former race director, participants, supporter and announcer of the Tulsa Run.

“Jack was a huge part of this race,” Hoyt said. “He was our organizing committee chair and was a prominent leader in the running community. When he passed in September, our team was devastated. We couldn’t imagine race day without him, so we wanted to be sure he was honored and still a huge part of the Tulsa Run.”
