Pinto World Championship Show begins June 7

6.3.2011
The Pinto Horse Association of America will host the World Championship Horse Show June 7-18, 2011, at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at Expo Square.

Pintos of all classes will unite in Tulsa for the world's largest gathering of the Pinto breed. Produced by the Pinto Horse Association of America Inc., the 12-day competition will showcase talented horses, ponies and miniatures and their exhibitors in a wide array of disciplines including jumping, reining, driving, roping, pleasure and halter.

“The 12 days spent at the World Show are not just about competing,” said Darrell Bilke, show manager and PtHA COO/executive vice president. “The show is also about fun, friendship, family and celebrating the Pinto breed.”

The event, which has been coming to Tulsa for more than 20 years, brings an estimated economic impact of $6.6 million and is one of top revenue generating events for Expo Square and the surrounding community.

Special evening performances will excite crowds as Pintos display a wide variety of athleticism and creativity in competitions such as the Trainer’s Leadline, Zone Invitational and the Costume Class. Three versatility showcases will display the strength of Pinto horses for spectators. New in 2011, the Gypsy Cob and Drum horses will get their turn to compete. These beautiful horses are stout in stature and powerful in might. Admission is free to the performances.

The Pink Your Pinto Parade returns June 13. The parade will honor those that have survived cancer, those that are still fighting the battle and those that have fallen to the disease. Donations will be taken throughout the event to benefit research at the OU Cancer Institute. The giving spirit will be in large supply at this year's show; the winner of the Charity Walk/Trot class will donate all the award money to the charity of their choice and the entry fees from the lighthearted Trainer's Leadline class will support the Challenged Rider's Leadline sponsored by Ford Farms. Also featured will be a Celebrity Walk/Trot class that is to be held on June 16, the entry fees and pledges made during the event will support the Pinto Heritage Foundation's scholarship fund.

“Our members love to show their support and give back to charitable organizations,” said Bilke. “We are glad we can provide an outlet for them to do just that with these events.”

In honor of Flag Day, June 14 will be designated to veterans and heroes of our country. Horses4Heroes will be a part of our evening performance. This nonprofit organization has been credited for making horseback riding affordable and accessible to families of the heroes amongst us.

More than 60 vendors will occupy the PWC market place during the horse show offering tack, supplies, clothing, jewelry, furniture, trucks, trailers and much more.

Incorporated in 1956, the Pinto Horse Association of America was formed to encourage the promotion of quality horses, ponies and miniatures with color and to establish a registry for maintaining their pedigrees and records. Currently, the association serves approximately 12,000 members and boasts more than 140,000 registered Pintos.
