Economic development division earns international recognition, Tulsa’s Future accomplishments praised
The Tulsa Metro Chamber’s economic development division has received one of the highest distinctions for a program of its kind, accreditation through the International Economic Development Council’s Accredited Economic Development Organization process. The Tulsa Metro Chamber’s economic development program is the 31st recipient worldwide of the honor.

The awards ceremony for the Tulsa Metro Chamber took place during its annual meeting for the Tulsa’s Future regional economic development plan. The Tulsa’s Future Annual Meeting included an overview of the program’s 2011 accomplishments, as well as a look ahead and an economic outlook. Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb and Commerce Secretary Dave Lopez were among the featured speakers at the event.
Lt. Gov. Lamb lauded the accomplishments of Tulsa’s Future, emphasizing the role the Tulsa region plays in the state’s economic development efforts.
“Tulsa’s future is Oklahoma’s future,” Lamb said, adding that “Tulsa is the key economic variable in the equation of success for our state.”

Chamber members have two opportunities to impact Tulsa regional community this week
Don’t miss Regional Day at the Capitol Wednesday
The Tulsa Metro Chamber invites anyone interested in the future of the Tulsa region to join us for the 2012 Tulsa Regional Day at the Capitol. Attend to hear from state officials and Chamber leaders on issues affecting the Tulsa region; enjoy lunch; and participate in group lobbying activities with legislators.
The event, sponsored by George Kaiser Family Foundation and LaFarge, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 25 at the State Capitol's second floor rotunda in Oklahoma City. Cost to attend is $49 for members and includes lunch. Group rates are available.

 Tulsa County, chambers and cities present enVision Summit Friday
Regional leaders and the community-at-large will convene this Friday to discuss and construct future plans for the region. Hosted by Tulsa County, and co-chaired by the regional cities and area mayors in partnership with regional chambers, the enVision Summit will engage citizens in self-motivated and vigorous deliberations about how to advance the region.
The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon, this Friday, April 27 at Central Park Hall at Expo Square, 4145 E. 21st St. New ideas will be gathered at the Summit, and those interested in the future of the region are encouraged to attend and participate.

Resource Campaign volunteers set week-one record
The 2012 Resource Campaign finished its first week by setting a week-one record of $1,695,229. This incredible achievement belongs to the campaign’s 190 volunteers and leadership, including campaign chair Mike Thornbrugh, QuikTrip Corp.; campaign co-chair Dave Kollmann, Flintco, LLC; and vice chairs Wade Edmundson, Summit Bank; Kirk Hays, Arvest Bank; Bruce Heine, Magellan Midstream Partners, L.P.; Marilyn Ihloff, Ihloff Salon & Day Spa; and David Stratton, JPMorgan Chase.
The 2012 Resource Campaign leadership team set a goal to raise $2.9 million during the 10-week campaign, which annually contributes approximately 25 percent of the Chamber’s total budget. The Tulsa Metro Chamber’s Resource Campaign is the second highest grossing campaign in the nation each year, and plays a major role in the organization’s strength and ability to deliver business-building events and benefits to members.
“The volunteers’ incredible work sets the pace for the remaining nine weeks, and I am confident this will be a Resource Campaign to remember,” Thornbrugh said.
TYPros gears up for summer intern series
Tulsa’s Young Professionals is gearing up for this year’s class of summer interns. TYPros presents a series of events for interns annually to help retain talented young professionals in the Tulsa region. This year’s program includes the Tulsa Big Wheel Race on June 7, a trolley tour of Tulsa on June 28 and an intern night at ONEOK Field for a Driller’s game on July 19. All of the events are free to attend, but space is limited.

Work begins on bridges along Broken Arrow Expressway
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is beginning work along the Broken Arrow Expressway, bringing upgrades and repairs to several bridge decks.
The $2.7 million project includes replacing the east- and west-bound bridge decks over Pittsburg Avenue between Harvard and Yale avenues and the bridge deck on the eastbound lane that passes over railroad tracks about a half mile east of Yale Avenue. The work is expected to take about eight months.
In the current federal fiscal year ODOT has scheduled $95 million in construction projects for an 11-county area of northeast Oklahoma that includes Tulsa County.
